Kristen Vandaveer Nicholson, APR, is an award-winning public relations strategist and respected leader in the communications field. As vice president of strategic communications and a partner at mhp.si since 2021, Kristen brings more than 15 years of experience in developing high-impact PR strategies, leading integrated campaigns, and managing complex crisis communications with precision and foresight.
A nationally recognized expert, Kristen is a four-time PRSA Silver Anvil Award winner, a two-time Silver Anvil Award of Excellence honoree, and a two-time national finalist for best-in-class crisis communications campaigns. Her work is marked by innovation, agility and a deep understanding of brand reputation in today’s fast-paced media environment.
In 2022, Kristen spearheaded the launch of mhp.si’s Content Studio—an agile team of content creators focused on producing compelling, social-first content that fuels engagement and drives digital storytelling. Her leadership has positioned the firm at the forefront of content strategy in the PR industry. Since its launch, the Content Studio has earned widespread recognition, securing four Arkansas PRSA Prism Awards, two Telly Awards, and a Henry Award for innovative and results-driven social media campaigns—further solidifying mhp.si’s reputation as a leader in digital storytelling and strategic content creation.
A sought-after speaker, Kristen presented at the 2023 PRSA ICON Conference on crisis communications and has twice shared her thought leadership at the PRSA Southwest District Conference, addressing cutting-edge topics such as influencer partnerships and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) and engaging social media content creation. Her ability to translate complex communications challenges into strategic, actionable solutions makes her a trusted voice among peers and clients alike.
Kristen holds dual bachelor’s degrees in journalism and political science from UA Little Rock. A proud alumna, she frequently returns to campus as a guest speaker and mentor, helping guide the next generation of communications professionals. She also holds the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR)—a distinction that reflects her commitment to the highest standards of ethics and excellence in the field.
Dedicated to community service, Kristen currently serves as Engagement Chair for Little Rock Rotary Club 99, one of the oldest and largest Rotary clubs in the nation. She is also a board member for Junior Achievement of Arkansas, where she previously chaired the JA Legacy Luncheon, and has long supported nonprofit organizations throughout the state. Kristen is a past president of PRSA Arkansas, a member of the PRSA Past Presidents Council, and an alumna of Leadership Greater Little Rock (Class XXXI), where she now serves on the advisory board.
Kristen and her family—husband Zac, daughter Palmer, and their spirited puppy Pepper—split their time between Little Rock and Northwest Arkansas, where they enjoy cheering on the Razorbacks, spending time with loved ones, and exploring new destinations together.

Lannie Byrd has been part of the mhp.si team for over 13 years, where he keeps things running smoothly as the chief operating officer. As a partner and COO, he handles the day-to-day operations, making sure both the client and product teams are on track. He’s also the go-to strategist for key clients, bringing his A-game to every project.
With more than 25 years of experience in marketing tech, Lannie has done it all – from leading breaking news coverage at regional media outlets to coding his own content management system. He led strategy on national omnichannel media campaigns. Storytelling is his thing, and he loves pairing the right tools and tech with the right message to help clients reach their audience and crush their goals.
Lannie holds a master’s degree in journalism and strategic media from the University of Memphis and a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and political science from Ouachita Baptist University. He’s even spent some time in the classroom, teaching mass communications courses.
